More information...Our tour starts at Plaça Catalunya. It's not really a touristic highlight, but its central location will make you come across it a lot during your Barcelona stay.
More information...La Rambla - most likely the most famous and the most prominent strolling prominade of Barcelona: Open air stage for stroller, friends of the theatre, artists, locals and tourists. The Rambla starts at the south west corner of the square at the department store El Cortes Inglés. Watch how the Rambla and the kisoks change the further you walk.
More information...About 100 metres from the metro station Liceu the market hall Mercat de la Boqueria is located. The market hall is a very typical market hall in Barcelona, just larger and nicer than the respective halls in the districts.
The Mercat de la Boqueria (Market de Sant Josep) is the most known, nicest and largest market hall in Barcelona. All senses are stimulated here. No other touristic sight is as integrated into the local's daily life as this temple of indulgence.
Walk further on the Ramblas towards the ocean. After about 300 metres there's a small alley on the left side which leads to the Plaça Reial.
The benches and cafes invite to pause for a little while. The square is located about 50 metres from the Rambla.
Our tip: from here you can start a pub crawl at night, just walk through the inconspicuous exits on the south side (towrds ocean) to the alleys of the gothic district.
To get to the cathedral, exit Plaça Reial on the northern side (towards mountains) and walk the Carrer Ferran to the right. You will get to Plaça Sant Jaume, Barcelona's and Catalonia's political centre and the geographical centre of the old town district.
At the northern side of the square there's a little alley which leads straight to the cathedral.
You can visit the cathedral at specific times for free, enjoy the cathedral's cloister also.
The church Santa Maria del Mar is the tip for your Barcelona stay. The church is one of Barcelona's landmark. Because of 55 years construction time it is one of the few churches where you can only find elements of the gothic.
Consider that the entry isn't for free continuously.
To get to Santa Maria del Mar, walk from the main portal to the left (direction of view to church) until you get to Via Leiatena. Follow this through road ro the right for about 200 metres until you're at the metro station Jaume I. Walk to the left to Santa Maria del Mar. It's signed posted from here.
If you pass the Santa Maria del Mar on the right side and follow the street, you will directly get to the Mercat del Born. In fact the historical market was supposed to serve as market hall again, but an old settlement from around 1700 was found during restoration works. The entry is free.
More information...Depending on how fast you were so far, it is already late afternoon. Walk further in eastern direction to the Parc de la Ciutadella. You can take a walk through the very beautiful park. If it's already later we suggest to walk past Port Vell through the district Barceloneta directly to the Beach.
More information...From the Park de la Ciutadella walk straight in a southern direction towards the ocean. You will get through the district Barceloneta, known for its many fish restaurants that usually aren't that expensive. Maybe you see one before you go o the beach, to enjoy the atmosphere of the sunset.

The roof of Casa Batlló resembles a dragon back. Gaudí embodied the Sant Georgs legend. The inside of Casa Batlló is as spectacular as the facade.
From Casa Batlló walk about 300 metres wo the north to Casa Milà (La Pedrera), also one of Antoni Gaudí's masterpieces. The facade is remarkable already and the building is one of Barcelona's landmarks. You can decide if you would like to see the inside and the roof of the building.
